Dal Lake

    Dal Lake is situated in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.  Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.  Dal Lake is also called as Srinagar's Jewel.  The lake is also an important source for commercial operations in fishing and water plant harvesting.  The shore of the lake is about 15.5 kilometres (9.6 miles).

     The fishing industry on Dal Lake is the largest industry in the region.  The lake is popular as a visitor attraction and a summer resort.  Swimming, boating, snow skiing (in winter) are some of the water sports activities practised on the lake.

    During the winter season, the temperature sometimes reaches -11 Degree Celsius, freeze the lake.  In Dal Lake there is a floating garden.  It is also known as "Rad" in Kashmiri, blossom with lotus flowers during July and August.  It constitute of matted vegetation and earth, but are floating.  Here Tomatoes, Cucumbers and Melons are grown with noteworthy results.

    The main attraction of Dal Lake is boating.  The Shikara is a type of wooden boat found on Dal Lake and other water bodies of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
